The Bible Translator: Volume 31, Issue 1

An examination of the 1978 revision of the French Segond Bible leads to the conclusion that it is a disappointment, but not entirely so. Its value lies in its notes, references and glossary, rather than in the translation itself, which in some respects is more conservative than the 1910 edition which it replaces. This very literal translation of Luke, with notes, appears in a general series of classics. The translation shows some doctrinal bias. Used critically, it may provide the translator with valuable ideas, but essentially at the level of individual words. View Less
