While the translators show a high regard for the Masoretic text they have on occasion resorted to giving alternate translations for obscure passages, revocalized the text, made use of the versions, and they have utilized the latest archaeological and linguistic advances to produce a superior translation. A freshness of translation is achieved by using a crisp style, modernizing pronouns and using equivalent expressions. The Protestant reviewer detected little or no “Jewishness” in their work.
