The so-called ‘Gospel of Thomas’ was discovered in 1946, and has recently been published for the first time. The name is misleading; as stated below it is “not a Gospel in the accepted sense of the word.. . . It cannot therefore be considered as in any way a rival to the four canonical Gospels.” Although it has received more attention than it possibly deserves. we feel translators may be interested to read the following article which first appeared in The Daily Telegraph; we are grateful to the author, and to the editor of the latter newspaper for permission to reprint it here.
